Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Set to Return to the U.S. After Moving to U.K. – Here’s The Real Reason Behind the Move

Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, are reportedly planning a return to the United States after spending over a year in the British countryside.

According to sources speaking to RadarOnline.com, the couple has grown restless during their stay in the Cotswolds, and they are eager to revive their careers in show business.

The pair moved to the U.K. last year, settling into a large hilltop estate following the end of DeGeneres’s daytime talk show, which ended amid allegations of a toxic workplace. DeGeneres had initially said she would remain abroad while Donald Trump was in office. However, friends say the rural life, though peaceful, has become monotonous.

“Ellen thought putting an ocean between herself and Hollywood would give her room to reset, but a year on, she’s learned that breathing space isn’t the same as forward motion,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “The quiet is driving her nuts. Portia’s restless, Ellen’s restless, and they both feel their careers have been left sitting in the dark.”

While the couple enjoys aspects of country life, insiders say they miss the energy of Los Angeles and the entertainment scene. “Ellen and Portia miss their crowd, that spark – the whole ecosystem they built in Los Angeles. They want to plug back into it,” the source added.

DeGeneres herself has hinted at her boredom. Speaking on stage in September, she said, “I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens, but I’m a little bit bored.” Friends say this was more of a confession than a joke.

Part of the motivation for returning to the U.S. is practical. The time difference has made it difficult for DeGeneres to conduct business and creative meetings effectively. “Ellen is realizing it’s hard to close deals or hold meaningful creative meetings from across the pond. Zoom can only do so much, and L.A. thrives on face-to-face interaction,” a source explained.

Ambition is another key factor in their move. Sources say DeGeneres is eager to stage a full showbiz comeback, whether through a sitcom, comedy specials, or producing. Portia de Rossi also wants to reconnect with the world beyond the countryside.

The couple has struggled to sell their previous U.K. home, a $20 million farmhouse, but they may keep their newer estate for part-time use while reestablishing themselves in California.
