Every red carpet season has its ritual, and for London’s fashion crowd, the Albies has become a fixture on the calendar. The annual evening, hosted by the Clooney Foundation for Justice, pairs serious purpose with serious glamour. The result is a guest list where stars arrive in their best, and a few arrive in something bolder.

The 2026 edition was the fifth year of the awards. It took place on October 9 at London’s Natural History Museum, hosted by George and Amal Clooney, with Amal in a shimmering gold Gucci gown. The event honors people who have risked everything to fight for justice and human rights, and it is named after anti-apartheid hero Albie Sachs.

Among the celebrities in attendance, one look had the fashion world talking before the night was over. Emily Ratajkowski arrived in a black, semi-sheer, floor-length gown that did a lot of its talking through transparency. The long-sleeved dress had a high neckline, a fitted silhouette and a subtle train that followed her across the carpet.

The fabric was covered in shimmering metallic detailing, with floral patterns placed over the bust. Ratajkowski went braless underneath, and her black underwear showed through the delicate fabric. Reports described it as a perfect example of how she can elevate the naked dress.

With a gown this daring, she kept the styling simple. Her brunette hair was worn long and straight with a center part, and her makeup featured a bold smoky eye and a nude lip. There were no distracting accessories, so the Gucci creation stayed in the spotlight.

The photos show her posing in front of dark velvet curtains, which made the sparkle in the lace-like fabric pop. In one image, she stands in profile with her hands relaxed at her sides. In the other, the full length of the gown and its train are on display.

Ratajkowski, 35, didn’t attend alone. She stepped out with her boyfriend, French filmmaker Romain Gavras, making it a date night at one of London’s most glamorous charity events. The couple posed together at the Natural History Museum, which was the perfect backdrop for the evening’s theatrics.

The appearance continued a year of daring red carpet moments for the model. Only days earlier, at the MTV Video Music Awards, she wore a red-and-black George Trochopoulos dress with enormous side cutouts and an open back. Fashion reporters have noted that the Albies look continues her run of sheer, underwear-baring styles this year.

Ratajkowski had plenty of company on the carpet. Emma Thompson, Hannah Waddingham, Josh Hartnett, Isla Fisher, Melinda French Gates, Anna Wintour and Donatella Versace were among the notable attendees. Felicity Jones, Joel Edgerton and Bianca Jagger also made appearances.

Myha’la Herrold chose a sheer white lace gown of her own, which meant the night had no shortage of transparent fashion. Still, Ratajkowski’s dark, sparkling, high-necked gown stood out for the way it pairs conservative lines with plenty of exposure. The contrast between the covered neckline and the see-through fabric kept it playful rather than overdone.

Naked dresses can be a gamble, especially at a charity gala, but Ratajkowski has made them something of a signature. The long sleeves and floor-length hem gave the gown a classic silhouette, while the fabric supplied the drama. Pairing that with minimal styling helped the whole look feel confident rather than careless.

As the evening’s photographs continue to circulate, her gown is likely to remain one of the Albies’ most talked-about moments. It also keeps her in the conversation as one of the red carpet’s most reliable risk-takers. Not every guest could pull off a dress like this, but she made it look effortless.

What do you think of Emily Ratajkowski’s sheer, sparkling gown at the 2026 Albies?
