Emma Stone Confesses at Bugonia Premiere: ‘I Believe in Aliens’
Emma Stone says she believes in aliens. The actress made the comment while promoting her new movie Bugonia at the Venice International Film Festival on Thursday, August 28.
During a press conference, the 36-year-old Oscar winner told reporters, “Yes, I’m coming out with it: I believe in aliens.” She also explained why, saying it would be “pretty narcissistic to think that we’re truly alone out here.”
Stone stars in Bugonia, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. In the movie, two men kidnap her character, a powerful CEO, because they think she is an alien who wants to destroy Earth. The story is adapted from a South Korean sci-fi comedy called Save the Green Planet! from 2003.

While answering questions at the festival, Stone joked with the audience. “How do you know I’m not an alien?” she said, before admitting the subject could be more complicated than what she wanted to explain in a press event.
She also reflected on the challenges of being a public figure. “Everybody sort of deals with that now,” she said, talking about social media and how people are seen by the outside world. She explained that she separates her personal life from her public one. “There’s me, and then there’s ‘me,’ here,” Stone said, describing it as a way to stay balanced.
Stone has worked with Lanthimos several times before, including in The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness. Her Bugonia co-stars include Jesse Plemons, Alicia Silverstone, Aidan Delbis, and Stavros Halkias.
The actress also talked about a bold moment from filming. Earlier this year, she showed up at the Golden Globe Awards with a pixie cut. That haircut came from a scene in Bugonia, where she shaved her head on camera.
She later told Vogue that the experience felt freeing. “No better feeling in the world. The first shower when you’ve shaved your head? Oh my God, it’s amazing.” Speaking in Venice, she added that it was “so much easier than any hairstyle.”
Bugonia will be released in select theaters on October 24 and will open nationwide on October 31.
mma Stone admitting she believes in aliens adds a fun twist to her press tour, especially since her new movie deals with similar themes. It also shows she isn’t afraid to speak honestly in front of a global audience. What do you think about her belief in aliens? Do you agree with her that we’re not alone in the universe?
