Emma Stone Reveals the One Movie She Could Watch on Repeat Forever
Emma Stone has revealed that her all-time favorite movie to watch on repeat is the Beatles’ 1965 film Help!. Speaking to HuffPost, the actress said, “The only movie I can watch on a loop, over and over, is Help!, the Beatles movie. It’s so funny and irreverent and great.”
Help! was directed by Richard Lester and is the second feature film starring the Beatles, following A Hard Day’s Night.
The film follows the band as they try to protect Ringo Starr from a cult and a pair of mad scientists, all seeking a sacrificial ring sent to him by a fan. The cast also included Leo McKern, Eleanor Bron, and Victor Spinetti. The movie’s soundtrack was released as the Beatles’ fifth studio album, also titled Help!.
The film premiered at the London Pavilion Theatre on July 29, 1965, in a ceremony attended by Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon. While initial reviews were mixed, many critics praised Lester’s direction and the band’s energy.
Some found the humor over-the-top, but others, like the Daily Express, compared the Beatles’ comedic style to the Marx Brothers. Bosley Crowther of The New York Times, however, criticized it as a chaotic mix of farcical scenes.
Over the years, Help! has earned a reputation as an influential film. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an 89% approval rating, with reviewers noting its humor and madcap adventure. Critics have pointed out that the film’s style anticipated music videos and pop-art visuals in other media, influencing projects like The Monkees’ TV series and even the 1966–68 Batman show. Its playful and surreal approach captured the cultural energy of 1960s London, and directors like Spike Lee have cited its impact on their work.
Help! remains a cultural touchstone, blending comedy, music, and visual style in ways that still resonate decades later. Emma Stone’s choice reflects the movie’s enduring charm and its ability to entertain audiences repeatedly.
