Production on Netflix’s Wednesday Season 3 was suddenly interrupted after actress Eva Green suffered an injury while filming in Ireland.

The French actress, who recently joined the hit series as Aunt Ophelia, was reportedly hurt during shooting outside Dublin. According to Hello!, Green was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after suffering a serious leg injury. The accident caused producers to temporarily adjust the filming schedule while she recovered. A source close to the production told The Sun that the situation was serious but that Green received quick medical attention.

“This was really nasty. Eva sustained an injury and was clearly in pain and producers were taking no chances. Medics were called and Eva went to hospital. She underwent treatment and is now recovering well.”

Although the injury created problems for the production team, reports say Green is doing better and filming is expected to continue with changes made around her recovery.

Green joined Wednesday Season 3 in November, taking on the role of Aunt Ophelia, the sister of Morticia Addams. Her casting was a major moment for fans, especially after months of speculation that Lady Gaga could eventually appear as the character following her brief role in the previous season.

Before production began, Green shared her excitement about becoming part of the strange and dark world of the Addams family.

“I’m thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday as Aunt Ophelia. This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world, I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.”

The show’s creators, Al Gough and Miles Millar, also explained why they believed Green was the right person for the role. In a statement released after her casting announcement, the writers praised her ability to bring unusual and mysterious characters to life.

“Eva Green has always brought an exhilarating, singular presence to the screen – elegant, haunting, and beautifully unpredictable. Those qualities make her the perfect choice for Aunt Ophelia. We’re excited to see how she transforms the role and expands Wednesday’s world.”

Wednesday became one of Netflix’s biggest successes after its first season broke viewing records and turned Jenna Ortega’s version of Wednesday Addams into a global phenomenon. Because of the show’s popularity, Netflix has kept details about the third season closely protected, with many story details still being kept secret.

The new season will bring back major stars including Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Isaac Ordonez. With the show’s growing popularity, the production has reportedly received a large budget and major effort has been made to bring in well-known actors.

A source previously described Wednesday as one of Netflix’s biggest priorities, explaining that the success of the first season changed the scale of the series.

“Wednesday is a huge priority for Netflix. But since it became such a streaming success, the producers have gone to extraordinary lengths to keep the production secret. The budget for the show is enormous. No expense has been spared in securing huge name actors.”

Netflix representatives confirmed that the schedule had to be adjusted because of Green’s recovery, but production has continued while the team works to avoid major delays.

Fans will now be waiting to see how Aunt Ophelia fits into the Addams family story when Wednesday returns for its third season.
