Evangeline Lilly Responds to Fan Question About Wasp Teaming Up With Wolverine in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

Marvel Studios has two massive Avengers movies on the way, Doomsday and Secret Wars. While the cast for Doomsday is mostly set, Secret Wars remains a mystery, and no one really knows what kind of Multiversal chaos it will bring.

Loud rumors suggest that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will appear in the film, which honestly wouldn’t be a shock. Several major stars from Fox’s X-Men franchise are already set to return for Doomsday, including Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, and Allan Cumming.

Recently, Evangeline Lilly, the MCU’s Hope van Dyne, also known as the Wasp, shared a heartfelt post praising the team behind Supanova Comic Con & Gaming. She included a photo of herself with a Wolverine cosplayer, and to be honest, it’s a pretty solid cosplay. But what caught fans’ attention was that she may have dropped a small hint about a possible team-up with Wolverine.

One fan jokingly commented that the photo was a subtle way of confirming she’ll share screen time with Wolverine in Secret Wars. Lilly responded with just a wink, choosing not to give a direct answer.

In June 2024, Lilly announced that she was “stepping away” from acting to focus on her family. She noted that “I might return to Hollywood one day, but for now, this is where I belong.

Her last live-action role was in Quantumania, a film that was meant to introduce a menacing Kang variant and kick off Phase 5 of the MCU. The movie ended up being a notable box office bomb and arguably marked the beginning of the end for both Kang as a character and the actor Jonathan Majors.

The last reference to her actually came in Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, where a billboard for her company can be seen in Times Square.

Neither Lilly nor Jackman are currently confirmed to appear in Doomsday, at least as far as we know. But like I said, no one really knows what’s going on with Secret Wars. Considering Lilly’s retirement, the chances do seem small.

Marvel Studios announced Avengers: Secret Wars during the July 2022 SDCC, with Michael Waldron set to write the script that October. In July 2024, the Russo brothers were confirmed as directors and producers through AGBO, alongside Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely as the new writers and Robert Downey Jr. cast as Doctor Doom.

Filming is set to begin in mid-2026 at Pinewood Studios in England and is expected to last around six months. Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2027.

The main Fantastic Four cast is also expected to return from Doomsday for the film.
