Everything Points to ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Clearing $2 Billion at the Box Office

Box office tracking season has a way of turning into its own spectator sport, with numbers shifting week to week and predictions climbing higher the closer a release date gets. Few films this year have generated quite as much movement in that department as Tom Holland’s latest outing as Peter Parker.

That momentum has been building steadily since presales opened, culminating in a genuinely wide range of projections from major industry trackers as ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ heads into its opening weekend. Depending on which outlet you trust, the numbers paint very different pictures of just how massive this debut could be.

At the more conservative end, Deadline’s three-week tracking has consistently projected a domestic opening between $180 million and $190 million, a figure the outlet has stood by even as other trackers have climbed higher. Even at that lower estimate, it would still mark the biggest domestic opening of 2026 so far, surpassing ‘Toy Story 5’s’ $159.6 million debut.

Other trackers have painted a considerably rosier picture. Box Office Pro’s long-range forecast has the film opening domestically between $230 million and $250 million, while Box Office Theory has suggested figures could climb as high as $274 million, ultimately settling closer to $249 million in its own modeling.

More recently, momentum appears to have shifted even further upward. According to reporting from ComicBook.com, industry tracker Global Box Office revised its domestic projection to a range of $260 million to $300 million, citing a massive spike in pre-sales in the days leading up to release. If the film hits the high end of that range, it would become just the second movie in history to open with more than $300 million domestically, trailing only ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ record-setting $357.1 million debut.

That kind of trajectory has extended into global projections as well. Dark Horizons reported that GlobalBoxOffice’s tracking figures point toward a worldwide opening weekend of approximately $800 million, with more than $300 million of that coming from domestic ticket sales alone. If that figure holds, it would represent the second-biggest global opening weekend in box office history, again trailing only ‘Endgame’s’ massive $1.2 billion debut.

For context, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ set the current franchise benchmark back in December 2021, opening to $260.1 million domestically, the second-biggest domestic debut of all time at that point behind only ‘Endgame’. Whether ‘Brand New Day’ can match or surpass that number remains one of the weekend’s biggest questions, with most trackers currently suggesting it will land somewhere close to, but likely below, that historic mark.

It’s worth remembering that box office tracking remains an inherently imprecise science, especially with historic openings above $200 million, where sample sizes are limited and figures can swing significantly in either direction right up until release. Still, with pre-sales reportedly outpacing any release in the past five years, all signs point toward a genuinely massive debut for Sony and Marvel.

Whatever the final numbers end up being once the weekend wraps, ‘Brand New Day’ already looks set to deliver 2026’s biggest opening by a wide margin, offering a much-needed box office boost after a rockier stretch for franchise films throughout the summer.
