‘Fall 2: Deadpoint’ Trailer Takes the Franchise’s Fear of Heights to a Terrifying New Country

Survival thrillers have carved out a reliable niche in theaters over the past few years, but few have managed to turn a genuinely simple premise into as much white-knuckle tension as the original ‘Fall’ did back in 2022. That sleeper hit’s success set the stage for a sequel fans have been anxiously anticipating, and the wait for a proper look at it is now over.

Directed by the Spierig Brothers, known for horror entries like ‘Jigsaw’ and ‘Predestination,’ ‘Fall 2: Deadpoint‘ picks up the story with an entirely new cast of characters facing a fresh, equally terrifying height-based nightmare. Original ‘Fall’ writer-director Scott Mann returns to co-write the screenplay alongside Jonathan Frank, keeping the franchise’s creative DNA intact even as new filmmakers take the reins.

Lionsgate has now released the film’s full trailer, confirming its theatrical release date of September 2, following the story of Jax Hunter, played by Harriet Slater, and her late sister’s close friend Luce, played by Arsema Thomas. Still grieving the traumatic death of her sister Shiloh from the original film’s events, Jax agrees to join Luce on a tribute expedition to Thailand, where the pair attempt an infamous, treacherous plank walk along Mount Kwan.

That decision quickly turns catastrophic when a sudden rockslide leaves the two women stranded at a terrifying height of 3,000 feet, forcing them to fight for survival on a fragile, broken plank suspended high above the ground. According to the film’s official synopsis, the sequel is designed to push the fear-of-heights premise even further than the original, promising unpredictable terrain and extreme exposure with nowhere for its characters to hide.

Tom Brittney rounds out the film’s central trio, joining Slater and Thomas as the story’s new ensemble takes on the franchise’s signature blend of vertigo-inducing set pieces and stripped-down survival tension. The film also features Einar Haraldsson and Juju Journey Brener in supporting roles, further expanding the cast beyond the tight, claustrophobic dynamic of the first film.

The sequel’s road to theaters hasn’t been entirely smooth, having been pushed back from an earlier planned August release date to its current September 2 slot. Despite that delay, marketing has continued ramping up steadily, with Lionsgate now backing the film with both a new trailer and accompanying poster ahead of its theatrical debut.

Much of the excitement surrounding this sequel stems from just how unexpectedly successful the original film turned out to be. Made on a modest budget of roughly $3 million, ‘Fall’ went on to earn more than $20 million worldwide in theaters before finding an even bigger audience once it hit streaming platforms.

That underdog success story has clearly given Lionsgate confidence to expand the franchise into international territory, with ‘Fall 2: Deadpoint’ marking the first of two sequels reportedly greenlit by Capstone Studios following the original’s breakout performance. Producers Mark Lane, James Harris, Christian Mercuri, David Haring, and Scott Mann are all returning to shepherd the franchise’s next chapter.

Given how effectively the first film turned a simple, relatable fear into ninety minutes of sustained tension, expectations are high that this sequel can replicate that same nerve-wracking magic on an even larger scale. Whether audiences will once again find themselves gripping their armrests through every terrifying moment remains to be seen once the film finally reaches theaters.
