Famke Janssen has once again addressed her absence from Marvel Studios’ upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday, and this time she made it clear that she believes the studio should have brought her back as Jean Grey.

The actress, who played Jean Grey throughout much of the original X-Men film series, spoke about the situation during a panel at Spacecon 2026. According to Popverse, Janssen said she has not been contacted by Marvel Studios and is not involved in the highly anticipated crossover film.

Fans have been speculating for months about which X-Men characters will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel has already confirmed the return of several actors from Fox’s X-Men franchise, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn and Kelsey Grammer. However, several major mutant characters are still missing from the announced lineup, including Jean Grey.

During the event, Janssen joked about her inability to keep secrets and suggested that if she had been cast, fans would already know about it.

“I am so bad at keeping secrets that I always say to everyone I’m the worst actor in the world. It’s all on my face. You right away will read it,” she said. The actress then shared her honest opinion about being left out of the project. “I think they made a mistake, but hey, who am I? I’m just a little me who thinks that.”

The comment quickly caught the attention of Marvel and X-Men fans online. Many viewers have been hoping to see the original Jean Grey return alongside the rest of the classic mutant team. Janssen first played the character in the 2000 film X-Men and later returned for X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand. She also made appearances in The Wolverine and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Her portrayal of Jean Grey, especially the powerful Phoenix storyline, remains one of the most memorable parts of Fox’s X-Men era. That is why many fans were surprised when Marvel announced several returning mutants but did not include her name.

Questions also remain about other missing characters. While many expect Wolverine to appear in some form, there has been no official confirmation regarding Jean Grey, Rogue, Iceman or Storm. Some fans believe Marvel may be saving additional casting announcements for later, while others think scheduling, story decisions or budget concerns may have influenced the final roster.

Avengers: Doomsday will unite heroes from multiple universes as they face a threat unlike anything seen before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film is directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, with Robert Downey Jr. set to play Doctor Doom.

Whether Janssen eventually appears as a surprise cameo remains unknown. For now, the actress insists she never received a call, and she clearly feels Marvel missed an opportunity by not bringing Jean Grey back for the next chapter of the multiverse saga.
