Famke Janssen Opens Up About Returning as Jean Grey in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Famke Janssen has opened up about whether she would ever return as Jean Grey in Avengers: Doomsday. In a recent interview with Kristian Harloff, the actress talked about her long career, her new projects, and how she feels about revisiting her past roles.
During their conversation, Harloff asked Janssen if she had been contacted about appearing in the upcoming Marvel film.
Janssen said that she hasn’t been asked and isn’t really interested in returning to that world. She explained that she now enjoys having more creative control in her projects, something she doesn’t think she would get with a huge movie like Avengers: Doomsday.
“I would not be asked back on Doomsday, or somewhere else, with that type of input. That’s not what they want from me,” she said. Janssen is currently an executive producer on her new Netflix series Amsterdam Empire, where she has a real say in how things are done.
The actress also shared that she prefers to focus on the future rather than revisiting old roles. “It’s hard for me now to just look back and worry, or think about a part where I get a few lines,” she explained. “It just doesn’t seem that interesting to me. I’m in a different place, and I’ve earned my way into this moment, and I’m running with it, because this is 80 films under my belt, and I’ve paid my dues.”
Even though she isn’t planning to return to Marvel right now, Janssen didn’t completely close the door on the idea. She said she wouldn’t mind being part of something fun if the opportunity felt right. “But at this moment in time, I just finished a movie yesterday in Bulgaria, called One Second After, and I also designed my clothes on that one as well,” she said. “It’s so cool to have these added parts to it, what I’m doing in my life right now, because I love creativity. I’m always looking to create.”
It seems that for Janssen, it’s not about saying goodbye to Jean Grey, it’s about wanting the role, or any role, to mean something. She’s not looking for a quick nostalgic cameo; she wants to be part of something that values her experience and creativity.
