Fandango May Have Just Spoiled Marvel’s Big ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Surprise

Marvel Studios has made a habit out of turning even its smallest marketing beats into full-blown events, and ‘Avengers, Doomsday’ has been no exception. Between mysterious social media teases, a pop-up coffee shop in London, and a steady drip of casting reveals, the studio has spent months finding new ways to keep the film in the conversation without giving fans the one thing they actually want: a real trailer.

That pattern continued this week as Disney opened advance ticket sales for the film’s Infinity Vision theaters, the premium large format brand created specifically for the release. The ticket window arrived five months ahead of the film’s actual premiere, giving fans an unusually early chance to lock in seats for one of the year’s biggest blockbusters.

Marvel appeared to be building toward pairing that ticket launch with a proper trailer reveal, treating it as a surprise for fans checking out showtimes. That plan may have unraveled a bit early, since the Fandango app reportedly began teasing the new trailer ahead of tickets officially going on sale at 6 a.m. Pacific and 9 a.m. Eastern, giving eagle-eyed fans a heads up before Marvel had a chance to make the reveal feel spontaneous.

The timing lines up with speculation that Marvel wanted the trailer to accompany the ticket sale directly, giving buyers an extra reason to commit to a purchase five months out. If the plan was to surprise fans with a fresh look at the film right as tickets went live, having that surprise spoiled by the ticket platform itself is a fittingly ironic twist for a marketing campaign that has already leaned so heavily on secrecy.

Not every showtime or ticket type went on sale alongside the tease, either. Standard 2D and other general admission formats outside Infinity Vision still are not available, meaning today’s rollout was always going to be a partial one regardless of what happened with the trailer.

If a full public trailer does not end up landing today, the next logical moment becomes San Diego Comic Con, where Marvel Studios returns to Hall H on Saturday, July 25, for the first time since Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom reveal made headlines back in 2024. Marvel skipped the convention entirely last year, so its return alone has already signaled that the studio has something significant planned for this year’s panel.

Either way, fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming days, whether that means a trailer arriving today to avoid clashing with the studio’s own Comic Con moment, or the footage instead being saved for the bigger stage next weekend. Given how tightly Marvel has controlled every other piece of Doomsday marketing so far, the studio is unlikely to let two major reveals compete with each other for attention.

‘Avengers, Doomsday’ is scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, continuing directly into ‘Avengers, Secret Wars’ the following December. With Infinity Vision tickets already moving and a possible trailer drop hanging in the balance, the next few days are shaping up to be some of the most eventful yet in the film’s promotional rollout.

When do you think Marvel will release the first full trailer for 'Avengers: Doomsday'?
