Recently, Ranker conducted a major survey to determine the most popular female fictional characters of all time. Given the significance of this list, we’re excited to present the top 10 female characters, ranked from 10th to 1st place, with the top spot going to the absolute best. We’ll also offer you our own comments and insights.

10. Jessica Rabbit

Jessica Rabbit, from the cult classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, is a cartoon character who captivated many with her allure. Sexy, bold, and enigmatic, she has maintained a lasting appeal thanks to the mystery surrounding her. As a beloved character, it’s no surprise that she ranks among the most popular female fictional characters of all time.

9. Mystique / Raven

Mystique has been portrayed by two actresses on the big screen—Rebecca Romijn and Jennifer Lawrence—both of whom have won the affection of fans. The character is known for her depth and complexity, making her particularly compelling. It’s easy to see why Mystique holds such appeal, and we fully agree with her place on this list.

8. Hermione Granger

Hermione Granger, the leading female character in the Harry Potter series, broke the mold to become a strong and independent woman who we all adore. Emma Watson’s portrayal further enhanced her popularity, making her an even more iconic figure. We wholeheartedly support this listing and believe Hermione truly deserves her place.

7. Lara Croft

As the first video game character on this list, Lara Croft is a beloved figure who has inspired girls worldwide to embrace their strength and independence. For decades, Lara Croft has challenged stereotypes, and it’s no surprise that she ranks among the most popular female characters of all time. We wholeheartedly agree with this recognition.

6. Arwen

Arwen gained significant popularity when the movies were released, although book fans were already familiar with her. The films boosted her prominence, and Liv Tyler’s portrayal played a major role in this. Her story within the saga further enhanced her appeal. While she represents an archetype, she is an exceptional one, and we fully support her inclusion on this list.

5. Selene

Honestly, we’re quite surprised to see Selene on this list. It’s not that she doesn’t deserve it—she’s fantastic and undeniably a badass we admire—but rather because she’s relatively less known compared to the other characters featured. Nevertheless, we’re thrilled that her appeal is being recognized and appreciated by more people!

4. Daenerys Targaryen

Daenerys is an expected choice. Emilia Clarke’s portrayal in Game of Thrones made her the most popular character in the series, earning her a devoted fanbase. Daenerys truly deserved this recognition, as she was a compelling character and the writers did an excellent job developing her story. This is a listing we fully support and anticipated.

3. Wonder Woman

We believe Gal Gadot’s portrayal played a significant role in this ranking, but Wonder Woman has rightfully earned her place as one of the greatest female characters of all time. With a rich legacy, she has shattered numerous stereotypes and serves as a powerful role model for many women. Her impact and significance make this ranking well-deserved, and we wholeheartedly support it.

2. Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow

Similar to the previous case, Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal in the MCU likely contributed to Black Widow’s high ranking. Just as with Wonder Woman, Natasha Romanoff stands out as a powerful and independent role model for women, demonstrating strength in a world that often fails to recognize women’s potential. Given her impact, we fully agree with this ranking as well.

1. Padmé Amidala

It looks like the Star Wars fans really rallied around this one, with Padmé Amidala taking the top spot—much to our surprise! While Padmé is certainly a compelling character, and Natalie Portman delivered an outstanding performance, the character has faced criticism from fans over the years. So, we’re pleasantly surprised to see her popularity overcome those critiques.
