Fans of two highly anticipated shows are facing disappointment after both were officially canceled, ending hopes for new seasons and continuations. Prime Video quietly pulled the plug on Leverage: Redemption, while Peacock’s follow-up series to the 2018 sci-fi film Upgrade was also scrapped.

According to TV Insider, Amazon MGM Studios decided not to move forward with a fourth season of Leverage: Redemption. The announcement came in December 2025, nearly six months after the third season finished streaming on Prime Video. The streaming service has not shared a reason for the cancellation.

Leverage: Redemption premiered in 2021 as a sequel to TNT’s original Leverage series, which ran from 2008 to 2012. Original cast members Gina Bellman, Christian Kane, and Beth Riesgraf returned, while Aldis Hodge made special guest appearances. Noah Wyle and Aleyse Shannon were also added to the cast.

In the show, the crew takes on high-stakes cases to right the wrongs of the rich and powerful, with Bellman’s character Sophie Devereaux, Riesgraf’s Parker, Kane’s Eliot Spencer, and Hodge’s Alec Hardison working to protect ordinary people. Wyle’s Harry Wilson, a former corporate lawyer seeking redemption, and Shannon’s Breanna Casey, Hardison’s tech-savvy foster sister, also became central to the team.

Showrunner John Rogers told TV Insider about what could have happened in a potential fourth season: “I think if you had a fourth season, you would see a lot more about the sort of AI tech — the environmental damage that industrial AI does. I always research just in case about these small towns that have these giant bitcoin and AI factories built in them, and the sound and the noise and the power draws destroying these people’s lives.”

He also teased that fan-favorite characters would have returned, with more backstory and deeper explorations planned. Season 3 didn’t end on a cliffhanger, but Rogers said there was still plenty of story left to tell.

Meanwhile, Peacock’s sequel series to Upgrade was officially canceled as well. Deadline first reported in 2020 that the show, based on Leigh Whannell’s 2018 sci-fi thriller, was in development. The series would have followed a technophobe implanted with a chip that gave him extraordinary physical abilities and explored how governments might use the technology to fight crime.

Producer Tim Walsh confirmed the cancellation in a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting. “Leigh and I sold that to Peacock back in 2019,” he said. “I think I started my writer’s room for Upgrade on the day the world shut down from the pandemic. We had the writer’s room. We wrote the scripts. But, as often happens in this business, somebody up top at Peacock got fired, and a new person came in, thought they knew everything, and dropped that project. It never got picked up later because it was a tumultuous time in the world.”

Walsh added that Whannell has no plans to revisit the project, so the series is unlikely to return.

Both cancellations highlight how unpredictable the entertainment industry can be, especially during uncertain times. Fans were excited about the continued adventures of the Leverage crew and expanding the world of Upgrade, but neither show will continue for now.
