Fans of ‘Blue Bloods’ Are Getting Another Familiar Face in ‘Boston Blue’
Will Estes is returning as Jamie Reagan for an upcoming episode of the CBS spinoff, bringing one of the original series’ most recognizable characters into the world of Danny Reagan’s new Boston-based story.
Deadline confirmed Estes’ return after Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, shared a behind-the-scenes photo on Instagram. The picture featured Estes alongside Wahlberg and Boston Blue stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Marcus Scribner and Mika Amonsen.
Wahlberg also made it clear that he was happy to have his onscreen brother back. “Welcome (back) to the family! Jamie Reagan! AKA Will Estes!” Wahlberg wrote on his Instagram Story.
Estes played Jamie throughout all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods. Jamie was the youngest son of Frank Reagan and became one of the NYPD’s most respected officers during the long-running CBS drama.

His return gives longtime viewers another connection to the original series, which ended its run in 2024 after more than a decade on television.
Boston Blue has already brought back several other familiar faces from the Reagan family. Wahlberg continued playing Danny Reagan in the spinoff, while Bridget Moynahan returned as Danny’s sister Erin Reagan. Len Cariou also reprised his role as family patriarch Henry Reagan, and Will Hochman returned as Joe Hill.
The new series follows Danny after he leaves New York and joins the Boston Police Department. Instead of working alongside the same family members and colleagues fans knew from Blue Bloods, Danny is now adjusting to a completely different department and city.
His son Sean is also part of the new series, although the role was recast for Boston Blue. Mika Amonsen now plays Sean after Andrew Terraciano portrayed the character in the original show.
Jamie’s appearance could give the spinoff a chance to explore Danny’s connection to his family while also giving fans a look at how things have changed since Blue Bloods ended.
It is not yet clear how large Estes’ role will be or what brings Jamie to Boston. CBS has also not revealed the full details of his episode, so viewers will have to wait to see whether Jamie is simply visiting his brother or becomes involved in Danny’s latest case.
The return comes as Boston Blue prepares for its second season. Deadline previously reported that CBS renewed the series for Season 2 in December. The new season is scheduled to return on October 9.

The renewal shows that CBS sees more potential in Danny Reagan’s story even after Blue Bloods came to an end. Bringing back characters from the original series also gives the spinoff a way to keep its connection to the Reagan family while building its own identity.
For fans who watched Jamie grow from a rookie officer into a major part of the Reagan family, seeing Estes back on screen with Wahlberg should be a welcome reunion.
With Danny now living and working in Boston, Jamie’s appearance could also open the door for more Blue Bloods characters to cross over into the spinoff.
For now, the details are being kept under wraps. But one thing is already clear: Jamie Reagan is heading to Boston, and longtime Blue Bloods fans have another reason to tune in.
