Fans React Negatively as ‘Predator: Badlands’ Lands Franchise-First Age Rating
The upcoming Predator movie, Predator: Badlands, is set to be a first for the franchise. For the first time in its history, a mainline Predator film will carry a PG-13 rating instead of the usual R. Producer Rosenblatt says the goal is to make the movie feel as intense as an R-rated film while reaching a wider audience.
“We’ll see where it ends up, but our hope for it is that it can be a PG-13 that feels like an R,” Rosenblatt explained. “That’s kind of our hope. And really, what that’s about is just being able to broaden out the audience for a movie like this.”
One of the reasons for the lower rating is that the film won’t show any human characters being harmed. “We don’t have any humans in the movie and so we don’t have any human red blood,” Rosenblatt added.
“So we’re hoping that’s gonna play to our advantage. We’re going to go as hard as we possibly can within those constraints, and we think we’ll be able to do some pretty awesomely gruesome stuff. But in colours other than red.” He said.

Instead of human blood, the film will feature synthetic goop and glowing green predator blood. The filmmakers insist that the movie will still be “as violent as possible”, even within the PG-13 limits.
Fans, however, have not responded well to the news. Social media is filled with criticism, including comments like “So they neutered a Predator movie”, “Not rated R? In PREDATOR???”, and “Bro this is about to be the biggest flop ever.” Some viewers feel that the new rating undermines the intensity that made the series popular.
The PG-13 rating is a significant change for the franchise, and it remains to be seen how audiences will respond once the movie is released.
