‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Smashes Box Office Predictions with Surprise Surge in Ticket Sales
Fantastic Four: First Steps, the latest superhero movie from Marvel Studios, is off to a much better start than many expected. Just days before its official release on July 25, 2025, the film has already shown major growth in ticket sales, with early reports pointing to a very big opening weekend.
According to updates shared by analysts on social media, the film’s sales jumped in the last 24 hours, and early reviews are also looking strong. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film is sitting near 90% positive, which could help bring in more viewers through word of mouth. As one industry insider said on X, “Looking at a $135 million plus opening weekend and won’t be shocked if it goes higher as positive word of mouth spreads.”

Earlier reports from Deadline had predicted a more modest debut for the movie. At that point, projections suggested First Steps would open somewhere between $100 million and $110 million.
Even then, it was already showing better presales than other Marvel films like Thunderbolts* and Captain America: Brave New World. However, compared to DC’s Superman, Marvel’s First Steps seemed to be trailing slightly.
Superman opened to $125 million not long ago, and Deadline noted its presales were around 20% higher than those of First Steps before its debut.
First Steps is the latest attempt to bring Marvel’s famous superhero family back to the big screen. It’s the 37th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the second reboot of the Fantastic Four.
Directed by Matt Shakman, the film features a popular cast including Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the core team. They’re joined by Julia Garner, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson, who plays the movie’s main villain, Galactus. The story is set in a 1960s-inspired retro world where the Fantastic Four must protect their planet from the cosmic threat of Galactus.
The movie had its world premiere in Los Angeles on July 21, 2025, at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Critics have given mostly positive reviews, and according to reports, Marvel is already working on a sequel.
For now, all eyes are on its opening weekend. With strong reviews, fast-growing presales, and a solid fan following, Fantastic Four: First Steps looks ready to surprise many at the box office.
