‘Fightland’ Episode 2 Recap: Duke’s Revenge Plan Starts Spiraling in ‘Brick by Brick’
‘Fightland‘ wasted no time establishing its stakes when the crime drama premiered on Starz, tossing viewers straight into the underworld surrounding disgraced boxing champion Duke Kilroy. Executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the series follows Duke as he returns to London after an eight-year prison sentence, determined to dismantle the empire of Kingsley Marshall, the man he believes betrayed him.
The premiere ended on a gut-punch of a cliffhanger, with Duke’s best friend Jay walking in to find him standing over a dead body. That moment set the tone for just how quickly Duke’s undercover mission was going to unravel once he actually put his plan into motion.
Episode 2, titled ‘Brick by Brick,’ picks up in that exact moment, and things only get messier from there. Duke’s scheme involves stealing the Marshall family’s drug haul and planting it on their Albanian partners to make it look like a betrayal, but the plan goes sideways fast after he accidentally kills a man named Simeon while covering his tracks.
What was already a risky move turns into a full-blown crisis as Duke keeps piling up bodies trying to clean up his own mess. The episode leans into dark comedy at points too, including a moment where a disposed body looks more like a poorly wrapped mannequin than anything convincing.
One of the episode’s biggest swerves comes when Duke holds onto Simeon’s phone and discovers that Kim, a ring girl connected to the Marshall operation, is actually an undercover police officer. That revelation adds a whole new layer of risk to Duke’s already precarious position inside the Marshall organization.
Jay, meanwhile, remains the one person still fully in Duke’s corner, even as he gets pulled deeper into the fallout of Duke’s choices. He had every opportunity to walk away or go to the police once he found the body, but instead he stays loyal, a decision that only raises the stakes for what could happen to him later in the season.
‘Brick by Brick’ also spends time fleshing out the dynamics inside the Marshall family itself. Joy, Kingsley’s wife, is revealed to be stepmother to both Zeke and CeCe despite being roughly the same age as CeCe, and the tension that creates is immediately apparent.
Zeke seems unbothered by the arrangement, but CeCe is far less forgiving, openly calling Joy a “leech” and questioning why her father can’t see the same red flags everyone else does. The episode also draws a clear contrast between the siblings themselves, with Zeke prone to hot-headed outbursts while CeCe stays composed and calculating, quickly establishing herself as one of the show’s more compelling power players.
Elsewhere, Duke gets a rare moment of vulnerability with his father, who advises him to find something outside boxing to care about. Duke’s response is to immediately text Joy, the same woman at the center of his complicated history with Kingsley, all while keeping the relationship hidden from Jay despite everything else he’s already let his friend see.
Critical reaction to the episode has been largely positive so far, with reviewers praising how quickly the hour raises the emotional and narrative stakes for Duke’s revenge plot while deepening the show’s supporting cast. The combination of escalating danger and messy family politics has helped ‘Fightland’ build real momentum just two episodes into its run.
