As far as JRPGs are concerned, the Final Fantasy franchise can be described as a pioneering one. It has been the synonym for JRPGs for decades, as fans will know, and despite everything, it is still extremely popular.

There are 16 numbered titles in the main series, but the series also consists of a series of subseries, so the total number of games is much, much bigger. Among these subseries is the Final Fantasy Tactics subseries.

The original Final Fantasy Tactics was released in 1997, but as you now know, a remastered edition of the original game is coming in the form of Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles, set to be released on September 30, 2025.

The Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles release will contain both the original 1997 version of this absolute belter released in a pack alongside a revamped edition, as the trailer confirms:

But, we’ve known this for some time now, so we won’t bother you with these details. What is new is that the game’s creator and director, Yasumi Matsuno, recently shared a heartfelt message with his fans on social media, and here is what he said:

FINAL FANTASY TACTICS – THE IVALICE CHRONICLES

Nearly 30 years ago, the collapse of Japan’s bubble economy engulfed the nation’s financial institutions in mountains of bad debt, triggering a wave of corporate bankruptcies, a sudden and extreme rise in unemployment rates, and stagnation of Japanese society as a whole. It was an era when many were robbed of hope, when dreams were measured by their price tag.

Against this historical backdrop, I crafted a story. It was the story of Ramza, a young man who fought tirelessly against the entrenched social class system.

It was the story of Delita, who sought to take advantage of this confusion and despair to advance his own social position. It was a story of a peculiar destiny, in which friendship and betrayal intertwine.

And now, in 2025—a time when inequality and division are still deeply rooted in our society—I offer this story once again.

The will to resist is in your hands.

This is truly a very nice message by the game’s creator, and we hope that the remastered release does well.
