First Look at Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley in HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Trailer Will Leave Fans Spellbound
HBO has released the first trailer for its new Harry Potter series, giving fans a full look at the cast and a surprise premiere date set for Christmas 2026, earlier than originally expected.
The new series will retell J.K. Rowling’s story, starting with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Fans get to see the main young characters as they begin their first year at Hogwarts.
Dominic McLaughlin plays Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton is Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout takes on the role of Ron Weasley. In the trailer, Stout can be seen sitting in a classroom, showing Ron’s typical curiosity and nervous energy as he adjusts to life at Hogwarts.

The adult cast includes John Lithgow as Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, fully dressed in robes with his long beard, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall, Nick Frost as Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
The series is led by showrunner Francesca Gardiner, known for Succession, and several episodes are directed by Game of Thrones veteran Mark Mylod. JB Perrette, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, called the series “the biggest streaming event in the history of HBO Max and arguably in streaming, period. It’s number one, two and three in many ways.”

Original Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe praised McLaughlin, saying, “I’m sure Dominic is going to be better than me. I learned as I went. I look back on what I did now with a lot more kindness, and I find it less embarrassing now that I’m older. But I was very much learning how to do it for a long time on Potter.”
The trailer gives fans their first glimpse of Hogwarts, the young trio, and the iconic teachers. Alastair Stout’s Ron looks nervous but excited in the classroom, capturing the essence of the character fans know and love.
This new series looks like it will be a major event this holiday season. I think seeing fresh faces like Stout, McLaughlin, and Stanton breathe new life into Hogwarts is exciting, and it will be interesting to see how fans respond.
