First Look at Conan O’Brien’s Hilarious New Character in ‘Toy Story 5’ Revealed
Conan O’Brien has a new home in the Pixar universe. During Disney’s D23 Destination D event, fans got their very first look at his character in Toy Story 5. O’Brien will be voicing a toy named Smarty Pants, which is described as a potty training toy.

The comedian already joked about the role earlier this year when he confirmed the news himself on social media. He wrote that he originally hoped to play Woody or Buzz but quickly learned that “Smarty Pants is the best character of them all.”
The new film is being directed by Andrew Stanton, with McKenna Harris as co-director and Jessica Choi as producer. This time around, the toys face a challenge from something that has taken over kids’ lives today, electronics. Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the gang will all be back, but it sounds like the spotlight will be shifting.
Tim Allen, the voice of Buzz Lightyear, teased what fans can expect. “I can tell you that it’s a lot about Jessie,” he said in an earlier interview. Jessie, played by Joan Cusack, first appeared in Toy Story 2 and quickly became one of the most loved characters in the series. Allen also added, “Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign. And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyear. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.”

The franchise has a long history of breaking records at the box office. Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4 each made over $1 billion and both were praised by critics. Toy Story 4, released in 2019, was especially successful after some fans worried that the third film had already closed the story in the best possible way.
Now Pixar is looking to keep that magic alive with a fifth movie. With O’Brien lending his voice to Smarty Pants, Jessie taking a bigger role, and Woody and Buzz realigning, Toy Story 5 is shaping up to be another big chapter for the toys.
