First Look at Michael Mando Returning as Scorpion in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Filming began a while back on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and set photos from Basingstoke, England, give fans their first look at Michael Mando returning as Mac Gargan, also known as the Scorpion.
In the images, Mando steps out of a military-style helicopter, hinting that his character may be ready for action. He has also teased on social media that Scorpion could experience a Venom-like transformation in the film. In the comics, Gargan once became a host for the Venom symbiote while acting as Spider-Man in the Dark Avengers.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, with Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Mando, Tramell Tillman, and Marvin Jones III also in the cast.
The movie has been in development for several years. Sony confirmed work on a fourth MCU Spider-Man film in 2019, and producer Amy Pascal later revealed it would start a new Holland-led Spider-Man trilogy.
Cretton joined as director in 2024, and the title Brand New Day was officially announced in March. Filming began in August in Glasgow, Scotland, under the working title Blue Oasis, while soundstage work was carried out at Pinewood Studios in England.
The Glasgow shoot included locations like Merchant City, George Square, and Trongate, which doubled for New York City in the film.
Tom Holland said he was excited to return to location shooting after No Way Home relied heavily on soundstages due to the pandemic. Set photos showed armored vehicles with red demon logos, which some outlets speculated could hint at the Inner Demons gang led by Mister Negative. Other props, like a rhinoceros-shaped bust, suggested Rhino might also appear in the film.
Filming continued in Surrey at Brookwood Cemetery and later returned to Glasgow for additional scenes. During production at Pinewood Studios, Holland suffered a mild concussion while performing a stunt, temporarily pausing filming.
Marvin Jones III was confirmed to play Lonnie Lincoln, aka Tombstone, reprising a role he previously voiced in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). Filming in Basingstoke is expected to continue into early October.
