First Look at Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Trailer Leaks Online, Igniting Excitement
Christopher Nolan is back with a new big movie called The Odyssey, inspired by the famous ancient Greek poem by Homer. This film is being made by Nolan’s own company, Syncopy, and Universal Pictures will release it.
Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who is trying to get back home after the Trojan War to be reunited with his wife, Penelope. The movie has a huge cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal.
The project was first announced in October 2024 when it became clear Nolan was working on his next film with Universal, following his 2023 hit, Oppenheimer. After that, the cast was slowly revealed, and in December, Universal officially confirmed the movie would be an adaptation of Homer’s Odyssey.
Filming started in late February 2025. The crew has been shooting in many places such as Morocco, Greece, Italy, Los Angeles, Iceland, the UK, Scotland, and Ireland. The budget is massive, about $250 million, which makes it Nolan’s most expensive movie so far. It’s also the first big blockbuster Nolan has filmed completely with IMAX cameras.
The first trailer for the movie was shown in theaters recently, but several accounts leaked it online, giving fans an early look. The movie is scheduled to come out in the US on July 17, 2026.
Nolan has worked with Matt Damon before, like in Oppenheimer and Interstellar, so their reunion isn’t surprising. Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson, who also appeared in Nolan’s earlier films, have roles here too, though details about their characters are still secret. Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Jon Bernthal are fresh faces adding even more excitement to the film.
Fans have already spotted photos of Matt Damon dressed as Odysseus. Some experts noticed that the armor isn’t historically accurate, but the film promises amazing visuals. Costume designer Ellen Mirojnick and composer Ludwig Göransson, who both worked on Oppenheimer, are part of this project too.
Interestingly, Nolan decided to make The Odyssey instead of directing Troy, a movie he was linked to many years ago. Nolan said the story focuses on Odysseus’s long and dangerous trip back home after the Trojan War, rather than retelling popular Roman stories like Caesar or Antony and Cleopatra. He explained that those stories have been told many times before.
Filming is still going on in Scotland and is expected to continue in Ireland and the UK. With such a big budget and advanced IMAX technology, The Odyssey looks like it will be a stunning and epic movie. Universal has set the release date for July 17, 2026, so fans can get ready for a mythic action adventure on the big screen.
