Hulu is set to continue the story of Gilead with The Testaments, a follow-up to The Handmaid’s Tale, scheduled to premiere in April.

Ann Dowd returns as Aunt Lydia, and Chase Infiniti joins the cast as Agnes. Other stars include Lucy Halliday as Daisy, Rowan Blanchard as Shunammite, Mattea Conforti as Becka, along with Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, and Birva Pandya. First-look images from the series were revealed at CCXP25 Brazil.

The series adapts Margaret Atwood’s award-winning novel and takes place years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale. It focuses on a new generation of young women who have only ever known the strict and oppressive rules of Gilead. They face arranged marriages and a life of servitude, and must find allies, both old and new, to fight for their freedom and a better future.

“For these young women, growing up in Gilead is all they have ever known,” the series description explains. “Having no tangible memories of the outside world prior to their indoctrination, they will be forced to search for allies to help in their fight for freedom and the life they deserve.”

Bruce Miller serves as showrunner and executive producer on the series. Other executive producers include Warren Littlefield, Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Shana Stein, Maya Goldsmith, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Mike Barker, who will also direct the first three episodes. The Testaments is produced by MGM Television.
