[First Look] Dorothy Faces Blood and Gore in the New Slasher ‘Wicked of Oz’
Dorothy is about to face a much darker version of Oz. The classic story by L. Frank Baum, The Wizard of Oz, is being reimagined as a low-budget slasher called Wicked of Oz.
According to sources, the film is directed by Aaron Mirtes and co-written by Mirtes and Nathan Illsley, with a screenplay by James Cullen Bressack and Scotty Mullen.
In this new take, Dorothy Gale, played by Kenzie Wynne, is swept into a violent version of Oz after a tornado hits Kansas.
There, she encounters a cannibal Glinda, a brutal Scarecrow, a Tin Man who collects beating hearts, and a Cowardly Lion who attacks anyone on command. Dorothy must fight her way through these deadly foes to confront the ultimate villain, the Wicked of Oz.
The cast also includes Chelsey Fuller as Glinda, Patrick Sharn as The Wizard, Destinee Monét as Toto, Zach Lazar Hoffman as the Cowardly Lion, Brad Belemjian as the Scarecrow, and Carson Butcher as the Tin Man.

Producers Tom Malloy and Niccolo Messina of indie studio Insurgence are overseeing the project, which is currently in post-production and is aiming for a November release. Distribution details have not yet been announced.
“The creative team behind Wicked of Oz — genre veterans James Cullen Bressack, Scotty Mullen, Tom Malloy and Aaron Mirtes — combine credits that span everything from Mel Gibson action thrillers to Sharknado,” said Messina. “Together with our wickedly talented cast, the film offers no songs, no rainbows – just blood and bodies piling high onto the Oz sky. Its ferocious fun for every fan of gore.”
Fans of horror and gore can expect a wild, bloody ride through a familiar world turned nightmarish. Unlike the family-friendly version everyone knows, Wicked of Oz promises intense action, horror, and a dark twist on a classic story.
