First Look Released: Will Ferrell Swings Into Action in Netflix’s New Comedy Series ‘The Hawk’

Netflix has officially revealed the first look photos for The Hawk, the upcoming comedy series starring Will Ferrell and Molly Shannon.

The series is expected to premiere sometime in summer of this year and will focus on the world of professional golf. Ferrell plays Lonnie “The Hawk” Hawkins, a golfer who becomes the public face of a controversial new league competing against the PGA Tour.

The newly released images give fans their first real look at Ferrell in character. The photos show the actor dressed in colorful golf outfits while standing on the course during tournament scenes. Other cast members also appear in the preview images released by Netflix.

The project has gone through several changes since it was first announced in 2023. According to early reports, the comedy series was originally being developed under the title “Golf.” At the time, the show was described as a story about a professional golfer becoming involved in a rival sports league that shakes up the golf world.

The series was first announced as a collaboration between Gloria Sanchez Productions, founded by Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum, and T-Street Productions, the company led by filmmaker Rian Johnson and producer Ram Bergman.

In 2024, Netflix confirmed that the project was moving forward and revealed that Ferrell was co-creating the show alongside Ramy Youssef and Josh Rabinowitz. However, reports later stated that Youssef and Rabinowitz exited the series because of creative differences during development.

Despite those changes, production continued and more cast members joined the project throughout 2025. Alongside Ferrell and Shannon, the cast now includes Jimmy Tatro, Fortune Feimster, Chris Parnell, Katelyn Tarver and David Hornsby.

Netflix officially changed the title from “Golf” to “The Hawk” earlier this year. The streamer has not yet announced an exact release date, but the series is expected to arrive in mid-2026.

The comedy marks another major television project for Ferrell, who has remained one of the biggest comedy stars in Hollywood for years through films like Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Step Brothers and Elf.

With first look photos now released and production moving ahead, Netflix is beginning to build excitement around what could become one of its biggest comedy launches of 2026.
