First Look: Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray Suit Up for ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’
Shawn Levy has given fans their first peek at his upcoming Star Wars film, Star Wars: Starfighter. The director posted a behind-the-scenes shot on Instagram showing Ryan Gosling and newcomer Flynn Gray on set, writing, “Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea #Starfighter.”
The movie is set five years after The Rise of Skywalker and will expand the Star Wars story with new characters. Gosling leads the film, joined by Flynn Gray, who plays his nephew. Amy Adams is taking on the role of Gray’s mother, while Mia Goth and Matt Smith are stepping in as villains.
The cast also includes Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings.

Levy first began talks to direct a Star Wars project in late 2022. Progress was delayed due to the 2023 writers’ strike, but in 2024 Jonathan Tropper was confirmed as the writer. At Star Wars Celebration Japan in April, Lucasfilm revealed the title Star Wars: Starfighter and confirmed Gosling’s involvement. More casting updates followed, with filming officially starting in the United Kingdom on August 28. Claudio Miranda is serving as cinematographer.
The story will follow Gosling’s character and his nephew as they face new threats in the galaxy. The film is being produced by Lucasfilm along with 21 Laps Entertainment and will be released by Disney. U.S. audiences can expect to see it on May 28, 2027.
