Fandango has released an official behind-the-scenes featurette for Mortal Kombat II, giving fans an early look at the upcoming sequel to the 2021 hit film.

The footage highlights the action, stunts, and returning cast members, building excitement for the film’s theatrical debut.

Mortal Kombat II continues the story of Earthrealm’s champions as they face off against Shao Kahn, whose rise threatens the safety of their world. The sequel brings back several familiar faces, including Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada, with new additions Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, and Tati Gabrielle joining the cast.

The project is directed by Simon McQuoid with a screenplay by Jeremy Slater. Following the success of the first film, discussions about expanding the franchise began, including spin-offs for characters like Johnny Cage and Bi-Han / Sub-Zero. By 2022, Warner Bros. officially green-lit the sequel.

Filming took place in Australia, starting in June 2023. Production faced a pause in mid-July due to the SAG-AFTRA strike but resumed in November and wrapped by late January 2024. Warner Bros. Pictures has scheduled Mortal Kombat II for release on May 15, 2026, and a third film is already in development.

The Fandango featurette gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at the intense martial arts sequences, visual effects, and the effort the cast and crew put into bringing the iconic video game to life on the big screen.

This sequel looks like it will deliver even bigger battles and higher stakes than the first film. With the mix of returning stars and fresh faces, it has the potential to be a major hit for fans of the franchise.
