[First Trailer] Red Sonja Unleashes Brutal Vengeance in Action-Packed Fantasy Comeback

Red Sonja is finally making her big return, and this time, she’s slicing her way through blood, fire, and myth. After years of production delays and director shakeups, fans now have their first real look at the upcoming fantasy action film thanks to the first official trailer, released by Samuel Goldwyn Films.

The trailer opens with a brutal scene: a massacre that leaves Red Sonja thirsting for revenge. She’s captured, but if the trailer makes one thing clear, it’s that nothing is going to stop her from getting even.

She’s seen fighting her way through enemies in an arena, decked out in her iconic chainmail bikini. The trailer ends with a quick joke, but most of the footage is serious and intense.

There’s no shortage of action in the rest of the footage either. Sonja battles multiple guards, faces off against one of villain Draygan’s top fighters, and even goes head-to-head with a giant Cyclops. She might be outnumbered, but she never looks outmatched.

The film stars Italian actress Matilda Lutz as Red Sonja. She’s joined by a cast of warriors, rogues, and villains, though the spotlight never leaves her.

This project has had a rocky path to the screen. It was first announced by Millennium Films back in 2017 with Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta producing. Ashley Miller was the original writer. Bryan Singer was set to direct, but was later removed in 2019 after allegations against him came to light. Joey Soloway took over for a while, followed by Tasha Huo writing the script. Eventually, M.J. Bassett stepped in as director, and filming finally began in 2022 in Bulgaria.

Millennium Media confirmed that production wrapped with Lutz in the lead, and the movie is now set to hit theaters in the U.S. and U.K. sometime in late 2025.

While the long wait has been frustrating for fans, the trailer shows that the team behind Red Sonja didn’t hold back. It leans hard into the gritty, fantasy vibe of the comics. And based on what we’ve seen so far, Red Sonja is ready to make a loud, bloody statement when she finally returns to the big screen.
