Fox has officially canceled The Cleaning Lady after four seasons, putting an end to the fan-favorite crime drama. The show, based on an Argentinian series, stars Élodie Yung as Thony De La Rosa, a former surgeon from Cambodia and the Philippines who now works as a cleaning lady alongside her sister-in-law.

Thony’s life takes a dark turn when she witnesses a murder, pulling her into the dangerous world of a criminal organization.

Since its debut in January 2022, the show built a loyal following as fans watched Thony navigate the criminal underworld. However, signs that the series might not continue appeared as season 4 aired. In June, Fox made it official that there will be no season 5.

When asked if another network or streaming platform might save the show, It’s been confirmed there are no plans for that. The outlet said, “The chances are, alas, zero. I am assured that The Cleaning Lady‘s run has come to an end, and no new home is being sought.”

The future of the show was uncertain even before the cancellation. Just weeks after season 4 premiered, reports suggested the series was unlikely to be renewed. The Cleaning Lady faced several challenges, including creative shifts and the tragic loss of one of its stars, Adan Canto. Canto, who played Arman Morales, passed away in January 2024 after battling cancer.

In the season 4 finale, Thony prepares to take control of the cartel and face off against her enemies like Ramona. Despite the heartbreaking loss of Canto, the show tried to set up a strong ending for Thony’s story.

Critics had mixed feelings about the show. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 60% approval rating based on 15 reviews, with an average score of 6.8 out of 10. The site’s critics consensus says, “Elodie Yung is winning as a resourceful protagonist in over her head, but The Cleaning Lady needs to polish its clichés into something more substantial if it wants to truly sparkle.”

Metacritic gave the show a score of 53 out of 100, based on 9 critics, indicating “mixed or average reviews.”

Overall, The Cleaning Lady captured the attention of many fans, but with Fox’s cancellation and no plans for a new home, Thony’s story will come to an end.
