Frank Grillo Opens Up About Leading A.R.G.U.S. and Confirms ‘Peacemaker’ Will Be ‘All About Revenge’

Frank Grillo has been teased as a vital character in the DCU pretty much ever since he was confirmed as Rick Flag. Sr. The character is so far slated to appear in ‘Creature Commandos,’ ‘Superman,’ and ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2.

Recently, Grillo revealed that he will be the equivalent of Nick Fury in the DCU and that he will assume the position of A.R.G.U.S. leader, a title that Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) currently holds.

In his most recent interview, Grillo revealed some details regarding her s status and how this exchange of power is going to take place. In ‘Creature Commandos,’ he’s fully immersed in the action, wearing the iconic yellow shirt and being part of that world. However, in ‘Superman’ and especially ‘Peacemaker,’ his character shifts roles, taking over from Viola Davis as the leader of A.R.G.U.S.

As the new head, he moves from being a tough, action-focused soldier to more of a strategic administrator, wearing a suit and overseeing operations.

This new position gives him access to information he couldn’t see before, including secrets about his son. Learning these truths intensifies his desire for revenge, driving his character’s story forward.

In Creature Commandos, I got the uniform. I got the yellow shirt and the hair, and, you know, he’s really part of that world. And then in Superman and even more so in Peacemaker, I take over for Viola Davis in what she was the leader of Argus. So now I become almost an administrator.

I’m wearing a suit. I go from being boots on the ground badass to now being in charge, which enables me then to find out the truth about my son because now I can see things that I couldn’t see before. And, it just makes my passion for revenge even stronger.

In ‘Peacemaker’ Rick Flag’s story is going to get a lot more personal. This is something that the actor teased back when the second season started shooting. As you know, Peacemaker killed Rick Flag Jr. in ‘The Suicide Squad’ during a mission to keep sensitive data secret.

Grillo confirms that revenge is a central theme, if not the main focus, of ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2.

“It really is,” Grillo says, adding that his character understands the responsibility of his role in this world. He explains that while revenge drives him, he must also control it so things don’t spiral out of hand—a challenge he’s enjoyed balancing as an actor. He also teases a powerful, intense scene with John Cena that brings all this anger to a dramatic climax.

It really is. It doesn’t go without me. I still understand the capacity of which I have to serve this world. It’s a big responsibility, and so I have to be careful so that it doesn’t go too far, which has been fun as an actor to kind of balance that thing. John Cena and I have a pretty serious epic scene that culminates with all this anger.
