The movie, released in theaters in August, continues the story of Freaky Friday, the 2003 classic based on Mary Rodgers’s well-known novel.
This new chapter brings back Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, who return as Tess and Anna Coleman. This time, the mother-daughter pair face another wild body-swap—only now things are even messier. Anna switches places with her own daughter Harper, while Tess finds herself in her soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily’s body just days before her wedding to Eric, played by Manny Jacinto.
The film also features returning cast members from the earlier movie, including Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Rosalind Chao, Ryan Malgarini, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Lucille Soong. Newcomers Julia Butters and Sophia Hammons join the cast, with Hammons making her feature film debut.
Directed by Nisha Ganatra and written by Jordan Weiss, Freakier Friday was filmed between June and August 2024 and first premiered at Los Angeles’s El Capitan Theatre on July 22. Since hitting theaters, it has been met with generally positive reviews and earned more than $153 million worldwide.
The film mixes humor, family drama, and a touch of chaos, something fans of the original movie will instantly recognize. With familiar faces returning and a new generation joining the fun, it brings a fresh spin to a beloved story that continues to connect with audiences of all ages.
