From News Anchor to Spielberg’s ‘Disclosure Day’ Breakout Star – Courtney Grace Opens Up About Her Shocking Hollywood Rise
Steven Spielberg’s latest sci-fi movie Disclosure Day may feature major stars like Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, but a newcomer has quickly become one of the biggest talking points from the film.
Courtney Grace, a former journalist who spent seven years working as a news anchor, has received major praise for her performance in the movie. Her role may be brief, but her emotional final scene has connected with audiences and critics, making her one of the film’s surprise breakout stars.
In Disclosure Day, Grace plays an NBC news anchor who delivers a major announcement to the world after whistleblower Daniel, played by Josh O’Connor, and news anchor Margaret, played by Emily Blunt, reveal evidence of a government cover-up involving extraterrestrial life.
The scene is built around a simple but powerful message: “You are not alone.” For Grace, the moment represented something much bigger than just a character reading the news. She saw it as a human reaction to something that changes everything people believe about the world.
Speaking with Variety after the film’s opening weekend, Grace said she was shocked by the response to her performance.
“I am overwhelmed with so much gratitude and surprise and shock. My heart is ten sizes larger now. I am deeply touched that this moment in the movie resonated with people so deeply.”
Grace’s background as a real journalist helped her bring authenticity to the role. She explained to Variety that playing a news anchor on screen was different from her years delivering real news because journalists usually have to hide their personal emotions while reporting important stories.
For Disclosure Day, she was able to show what happens when a person experiences a life-changing event at the same time as everyone else.
“A lot of times as a journalist, your job is to give information to people and try not to show how you would be reacting as a person. When I read the script, I was so deeply touched getting to experience this moment alongside the world.”
Her journey to acting was also unexpected. Although Grace always had an interest in performing, she spent years believing it was not something she could pursue. She told Variety that an early failed audition when she was young stayed with her for years.

Eventually, she decided to follow that dream. After leaving journalism and training as an actor, she began taking smaller roles before landing her opportunity in Spielberg’s film. She previously appeared in projects including Sweet Magnolias and Stranger Things, but Disclosure Day has become her biggest moment yet.
Grace also praised Spielberg’s approach to science fiction. She said the director has a special ability to take huge ideas and make them feel personal.
“He is extraordinary at being able to take these really big themes and concepts and ground them in the human experience.”
The actress also shared that she hopes there is life beyond Earth and joked that aliens might even be watching the movie themselves.
“Maybe the aliens are having their own red carpet right now and they’re like, they did a movie on us!”
With her emotional performance gaining attention, Grace believes the experience has changed the way she looks at her future. She said the opportunity made her realize she should dream bigger and stay open to new possibilities.
For a performer who once stepped away from acting, Courtney Grace has now found herself at the center of one of Spielberg’s most talked-about films. Her transition from news anchor to Hollywood newcomer has become one of the biggest surprises of Disclosure Day.
