‘Frosthaven’ Demo Lets PC Players Explore Dark Fantasy RPG Ahead of Early Access Launch
A demo for the upcoming dark fantasy RPG Frosthaven is now live on Steam as part of Steam Next Fest. This is the first time the game has been available to the public, and players can try it out until June 16.
The demo gives a small look at what the full game will offer. It includes single player and online co-op for up to four players. It also works with NVIDIA GeForce NOW, so you can stream it even if your PC isn’t very powerful.
According to Arc Games, the demo has been built using feedback from a closed beta that ran earlier this year. That beta was only for selected players, including fans of the original Frosthaven and Gloomhaven board games.
The game is being made by Snapshot Games, the studio led by Julian Gollop, who is best known for creating X-COM. The original board game’s creator, Isaac Childres from Cephalofair Games, is also involved as a consultant. Gollop said they’re excited to finally let more players try the game for themselves.
“The time is almost here to open the gates and let all PC players from around the world have the chance to experience Frosthaven in our demo,” Gollop said. “With our Closed Beta playtest a few months ago, it was extremely valuable for us to get feedback directly from Frosthaven board game fans, as well as Gloomhaven video game and board game fans.”
He also added that fans gave great suggestions, and their support helped shape the game in important ways. Frosthaven is planned to launch in Early Access later this year.
This new demo features four different characters to choose from, along with tutorial missions and tactical combat quests.
Players will also get to build their own Outpost by adding buildings and finishing events, which unlock new parts of the game. Unlike the Beta, the demo includes voice narration from Forteller Games, who also worked on the board game’s narrative tools. Arc Games says the voice acting will help make the story feel more alive.
The full demo is available now on Steam and will be live until June 16 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Anyone curious about how the board game translates into a video game can jump in and see what Frosthaven has to offer.
