'Furious' Crime Drama’s Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Finally Here

Furious is off to a very strong start with critics.

The new Hulu crime drama, created by Elizabeth Meriwether and inspired by the 1987 film Black Widow, has earned a perfect 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 25 reviews. The series premiered on Hulu on July 27, 2026, and the early reviews suggest that critics are already paying close attention to Emmy Rossum’s latest role.

Rossum stars as FBI agent Alice Black, who is assigned to track down a mysterious female serial killer. The killer has a disturbing pattern: she targets lonely millionaires, marries them, and then becomes involved in their deaths.

But Furious is not simply another crime series about an agent chasing a murderer. The story becomes more complicated as Alice’s investigation brings her closer to the killer. Their lives begin to overlap, forcing Alice to question the difference between justice and revenge.

The early Rotten Tomatoes reviews suggest that this is one of the main reasons critics are responding so well to the show.

NME critic James Mottram gave the series four out of five stars and praised the way it approaches a familiar genre from a different direction. He described Furious as a show that “flips the overworked serial killer genre on its head” while exploring themes connected to the post-Epstein era.

That darker approach also stood out to TIME critic Judy Berman. Her review praised the show’s focus on the people caught up in its disturbing story rather than turning them into simple characters.

“Furious takes advantage of its longer runtime to get close to these people in pain,” Berman wrote. “It never reduces them to cartoons.”

The Guardian was also impressed. Critic Lucy Mangan gave the series four out of five stars and praised both the acting and writing.

“A fantastic supporting cast and a dense, lean, evocative script make this television for grownups, television to pay attention to and to entertain you enormously,” Mangan wrote.

Another positive review came from Jeanine T. Abraham of VisAbleBlackwoman, who gave Furious a five-star rating. She said the cast had already made her expect something special before watching the series.

“When I saw who was cast in this series, I had an idea it would be great, and I was not disappointed,” Abraham wrote.

Variety’s Alison Herman also highlighted the show’s handling of difficult subject matter. She noted that stories about trafficking and children in danger have become common in the current media landscape, but said Furious works best when it moves beyond familiar talking points and focuses on the people affected.

The series also has a strong cast around Rossum, including Lola Petticrew, Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine and Jake Lacy.

While the Rotten Tomatoes score could change as more reviews arrive, the current response is clearly impressive. Furious has managed to take a familiar serial-killer setup and give it a more serious, character-focused angle.

For Hulu, that early response is a promising sign. Whether viewers connect with the series as strongly as critics remains to be seen, but Furious has already made a strong first impression.
