Gal Gadot has opened up about the struggles Disney’s live-action Snow White faced at the box office, saying the controversy around Israel and Palestine played a big role in its failure.

“what’s happening in all kinds of industries and also in Hollywood, is that there’s a lot of pressure on celebrities to bring up things against Israel,”

In an interview with a group of amateur journalists on the autism spectrum, Gadot was asked about the film, which the interviewers called a “huge flop.”

The actress admitted that the box office results were painful and connected the poor turnout to the political pressure surrounding her and her co-star Rachel Zegler. “You can always explain and try to give people in the world a context about what’s happening [in Israel] and what the reality is here, but in the end people decide for themselves,” she said. “I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn’t do well at the box office.”

Gadot also reflected on her time working with Zegler, saying the two had a good relationship during filming. She described the experience as “fun” and mentioned that they laughed together often.

But the film’s problems went beyond just creative reviews. Rachel Zegler faced backlash in 2024 when she posted on X, “and always remember, free palestine,” while thanking fans for supporting the trailer.

Gadot, who served in the Israeli Defense Forces from 2004 to 2009, has also been outspoken about her support for Israel. Her stance, especially after the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, drew sharp criticism from pro-Palestine groups who said she ignored Palestinian losses.

The controversy spilled into the real world as well. When Gadot was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, protests broke out between pro-Israel and pro-Palestine groups. The clashes grew heated, with police chasing someone accused of stealing a flag from the Israeli side. Demonstrators shouted “Shame on Gal Gadot” as the actress posed for photos. The disruption was so intense that the ceremony started 15 minutes late.

Even with the protests, the event was filled with support from Hollywood stars. Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and Fast and Furious actor Vin Diesel both showed up to honor Gadot and her career. Still, the shouting and clashes outside highlighted how strongly people feel about her political views.

The controversy didn’t just affect her personally, it affected Snow White as well. The movie was banned in Lebanon, and the worldwide debate about both Gadot and Zegler followed the film everywhere. Despite the negative attention, Gadot stressed that she still tried to bring joy to the project. But in the end, the politics around her name made it harder for the film to succeed.
