Gen V Star’s Priceless Reaction to Nightwing Casting Rumors in the DC Universe
Fans of the DC Universe might have a new hero to watch out for after Derek Luh, star of Gen V, shared a playful response to Nightwing casting rumors.
The actor, who returns as half of Jordan Li in Season 2 of the Amazon Prime series, has impressed audiences with his action sequences, sparking speculation that he could step into the role of Dick Grayson in the newly rebooted DCU.
At the premiere of Gen V Season 2, Luh was asked about the Nightwing rumors by Inverse. While he said he couldn’t officially promote anything, he cheekily mouthed the words “call me to” to the camera, hinting that he might be open to the idea.

At 33 years old, the actor and rapper seems intrigued by the possibility of bringing the fan-favorite character to life on the big screen.
James Gunn, who is leading the DCU relaunch, has confirmed that some actors from the DCEU will return, but most of the franchise’s heroes and villains are expected to be recast.
Among the most talked-about characters is Bruce Wayne, with fans suggesting Alan Ritchson as a potential Batman but unfortunately, Ritchson himself recently said that he talked to James Gunn and that Batman is likely not in his future, but some other role in the DCU might be.
Alongside him, fans are eager to see Dick Grayson, the original Robin, grow into his Nightwing persona. The character has always been a fan favorite, and many are excited about the chance to see him in the new shared universe.
For Derek Luh, who has been thriving in the R-rated world of Gen V and The Boys, playing Nightwing could be a major career move. The character never had the chance to appear in the previous DCEU, making it an exciting opportunity for both Luh and longtime comic book fans.
The DCU already has plans for a Batman-related project. The Brave and The Bold, part of the first slate of projects for the universe’s Gods and Monsters storyline, will focus on Batman and Robin. However, this time the sidekick is expected to be Damian Wayne, Bruce’s son, rather than Dick Grayson.
Even though Nightwing hasn’t appeared in the new DCU yet, the city of Blüdhaven has been referenced in Peacemaker Season 2.
This fictional city is typically Nightwing’s home after he leaves Gotham, signaling that the groundwork may be there for the character to eventually join the cinematic universe.
It seems only a matter of time before fans get official word on Nightwing’s casting. Until then, Derek Luh’s playful gesture has kept hopes alive. “Call me to,” he mouthed at the premiere, showing he might just be ready to don the mask.
What do you think? Could Derek Luh be the next Nightwing in the DCU? Share your thoughts in the comments.
