George Clooney has revealed why he chose to raise his family far from Hollywood. In an interview with Esquire, the actor explained that after the birth of his twins, he and his wife Amal Alamuddin decided to move to a farm in France.

Clooney said the move was about giving their children a more normal life away from fame and the pressures of Los Angeles.

“Yeah, we’re very lucky. You know, we live on a farm in France,” Clooney said. “A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for them, it’s like — they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.”

He added that Hollywood culture worried him. “I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life. France — they kind of don’t give a shit about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.”

Clooney and Alamuddin, a human rights lawyer, met through their shared interest in activism, particularly regarding the Elgin Marbles.

The couple married in September 2014 at Ca’ Farsetti in Italy. They later adopted a Basset Hound named Millie and welcomed twins Ella and Alexander in June 2017. In 2020, Clooney revealed on talk shows that their twins are fluent in Italian, even though neither parent speaks it.

The Clooneys’ decision to move to a farm highlights their focus on giving their children a grounded, private upbringing. Living away from Hollywood allows their kids to grow up without the constant scrutiny and comparison that can come with fame.

Clooney’s choice shows a rare dedication to family over career pressures. It’s refreshing to see a celebrity prioritize a normal childhood for their children. What do you think about stars moving away from Hollywood to protect their kids? Share your thoughts in the comments.
