Hollywood star Glen Powell and Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins are joining forces for an exciting new sci-fi film, The Natural Order. Universal has secured the project, which is based on an upcoming novel by writer Matt Aldrich. Jenkins will direct, while Powell is set to star.

The story details are still a secret, but the film is described as a thrilling sci-fi adventure centered around the pursuit of eternal life. Aldrich and Jenkins will work together to adapt the novel, which has yet to be published.

This marks the first film produced under Powell and Dan Cohen’s new company, Barnstorm, as part of their first-look deal with Universal. Producers also include Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak from Pastel, along with Jewerl Keats Ross, who played a key role in bringing the team together.

Jenkins, known for directing Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk, recently found success with Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, which has grossed over $700 million worldwide. Meanwhile, Powell has become one of Hollywood’s busiest stars. He is currently filming The Running Man and recently starred in hits like Twisters, Anyone But You, and Hit Man.

Aldrich, the writer behind Pixar’s Coco, is making his novel debut with The Natural Order. His recent projects include Dynamic Duo, a Robin origin film for DC, set for a 2028 release.

With a powerful team behind it, The Natural Order is shaping up to be one of the most exciting sci-fi films in development.
