Los Angeles has embraced Japanese pop culture crossovers at the ballpark for years, and the Dodgers have made a habit of turning those partnerships into some of the most memorable nights on their schedule. Following a successful run with ‘One Piece’ themed promotions that returned for a second consecutive season in 2026, the team set its sights on an even bigger monster for its final home game of the year.

That collaboration came together as Godzilla Minus Zero Night, a partnership between the Dodgers and Toho held during the team’s regular-season home finale against the San Diego Padres. The event took place Thursday, September 24, at UNIQLO Field at Dodger Stadium, with first pitch set for 7:10 PM, and it was built specifically to build buzz ahead of the King of the Monsters’ next big-screen outing.

The night delivered exactly the spectacle fans were hoping for, with Godzilla making a special appearance on the stadium’s giant screen mid-game, roaring across the display in a moment that quickly went viral online. It was the centerpiece of a promotion designed to give Godzilla the kind of home-crowd treatment usually reserved for baseball’s biggest stars.

Fans who arrived early were rewarded handsomely for it. The first 40,000 attendees received an exclusive Godzilla Minus Zero bobblehead, limited to one per person with a valid ticket, while additional themed activations rolled out around the stadium in the days leading up to the event. Once the final out was recorded, the celebration escalated further with a Godzilla-themed drone show lighting up the night sky above Chavez Ravine.

Toho’s Keiji Ota, the company’s senior managing executive officer and Chief Godzilla Officer, framed the partnership in sweeping terms, saying both the Dodgers and Godzilla “share a powerful legacy of stepping onto the world stage.” He added that he imagined “the roar of the stadium crowd echoing across the globe,” capturing what he called the very spirit of Godzilla itself, in comments shared through the team’s official announcement.

The promotion arrives just weeks ahead of ‘Godzilla Minus Zero,’ the highly anticipated sequel to ‘Godzilla Minus One,’ which won Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards. Written, directed and with visual effects overseen once again by Takashi Yamazaki, the new film picks up in 1949, two years after the events of its predecessor, continuing the story of the Shikishima family as they confront an entirely new threat.

The sequel is set to screen at the 2026 New York Film Festival on September 26 before opening theatrically in Japan on November 3, followed by its North American release on November 6. Early trailers have also teased the return of King Ghidorah, adding fuel to expectations for what promises to be an even larger-scale kaiju showdown than the original.

Lorenzo Sciarrino, the Dodgers’ Senior Vice President of Global Partnerships, called the collaboration the “perfect event” to close out the team’s 2026 regular-season home schedule, and based on the reaction online, fans clearly agreed. With Godzilla now looming large over both the box office and the baseball diamond, the countdown to November is officially underway.
