Gwyneth Paltrow recently returned to the big screen with her latest film, Marty Supreme, and she brought her children, Apple and Moses Martin, to the New York premiere. While the event was exciting for Paltrow, her 19-year-old son had a very different experience watching the movie.

During an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Paltrow revealed that Moses enjoyed most of the film but immediately covered his eyes during her romantic scenes with co-star Timothée Chalamet. “He was like this the whole time,” she said, laughing as she mimicked him shielding his face. “He’s not into that.”

Paltrow explained that she had warned Moses ahead of time about the scenes. She learned to give warnings after once failing to prepare her grandfather for a topless scene in Shakespeare in Love. Despite the heads-up, Moses still found the moments awkward and embarrassing.

Her daughter, Apple, 21, handled the romantic scenes without issue. Paltrow admitted that her children usually avoid watching her films, preferring to see her as their mother rather than as a character on screen. She said Moses was “mortified” by the intimate scenes, while Apple took everything in stride.

Marty Supreme is set in 1950s New York and tells the story of a young ping-pong prodigy chasing a dream no one takes seriously. Paltrow plays Kay Stone, a retired movie star who becomes romantically involved with Chalamet’s character. The film marks one of Paltrow’s most high-profile returns to acting after stepping away to focus on family and her wellness brand, Goop.

Reflecting on the premiere, Paltrow said the timing felt right as her children are heading off to college. She admitted the experience also made her confront the quiet of an “empty nest.”
