‘Hannah Montana’ Star Miley Cyrus Remembers Godmother Dolly Parton: “I Have an Angel by My Side”
Miley Cyrus is mourning the loss of her godmother and longtime mentor Dolly Parton, who died Tuesday at age 80 following what her family described as a brief battle with cancer. Cyrus shared an emotional tribute on social media, reflecting on their decades-long bond both on and off screen.
“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share,” Cyrus wrote. “Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”
Cyrus went on to describe how she plans to process the loss in a way she believes would honor Parton’s wishes. “What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong,” she wrote. “I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis.”
She closed the tribute with a personal vow to carry Parton’s memory forward. “I will always love her and want to make her proud,” Cyrus wrote. “My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”
Cyrus and Parton’s relationship dates back to Cyrus’s childhood, when Parton played her on-screen aunt on the Disney Channel series “Hannah Montana,” a role that grew into a real-life godmother relationship and creative partnership that spanned Cyrus’s entire career. Parton’s death has drawn tributes from across the entertainment industry, with Cyrus’s message standing out as one of the most personal, reflecting a bond built over more than a decade both in front of the camera and away from it.
