Harry Styles Makes Surprise Appearance During Ryan Gosling’s Alien-Filled ‘SNL’ Opening

Ryan Gosling returned to “Saturday Night Live” for his fourth time as host, promoting his upcoming sci-fi movie, Project Hail Mary. The night took an unexpected turn when Harry Styles appeared in the front row, catching Gosling completely off guard.

“What are you doing here, man?” Gosling asked, laughing. “I just wish someone would have told me!”

As Gosling described his film, he joked about its style. “People are saying it’s like ‘E.T.’ meets ‘Interstellar,’ which is crazy, because those are like, what, two of the best films of all-time? Kind of like saying it’s like, what, double that?”

The audience and camera kept cutting to Styles, prompting Gosling to ask repeatedly, “I’m sorry, why are we on Harry Styles?” The moment escalated when the “SNL” cast joined in dressed as aliens. Together, they performed a medley of Styles’ Sign of the Times and I’m Just Ken from Barbie.

“You guys all came to help me?” Gosling asked the cast, dressed in silvery alien outfits. Kenan Thompson quipped, “No, we just came to get a better look at Harry.”

Gosling first hosted the show in 2015 and returned in 2017 and 2024, with previous appearances including the memorable Beavis and Butt-Head sketch where he couldn’t stop laughing.

Project Hail Mary, opening March 20, also stars Sandra Huller and is one of Gosling’s most anticipated roles this year. Harry Styles is set to host SNL next week and will serve as the musical guest.

This surprise cameo added an unexpected layer of fun to Gosling’s monologue and showed that even seasoned hosts can be caught off guard. Personally, I loved the energy Styles brought to the show, it made the opening unforgettable.
