Hayden Christensen Pitches Reuniting Star Wars Prequel Cast for Live-Action ‘Clone Wars’ Project

Star Wars fans have spent years hoping the studio would eventually bring the prequel trilogy’s most beloved era back to live action, and that hope just got a fresh boost from an unexpected source. Hayden Christensen, who’s spent the past several years reprising Anakin Skywalker across multiple Disney+ projects, has now floated an idea that could reunite nearly the entire original prequel cast.

Christensen has already returned to the character in both ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ and ‘Ahsoka,’ with the latter set to bring him back once again in Season 2, appearing as a Force spirit guiding present-day Ahsoka while also showing up in flashbacks during the Clone Wars era. That continued involvement has clearly kept him thinking about where the character could go next.

Appearing on the podcast “Hey Jonas!,” Christensen was asked about the possibility of a solo Anakin Skywalker series, and used the moment to pitch something bigger instead. Rather than a standalone project centered just on his character, he suggested reassembling the full cast from the prequel films for a live-action take on the Clone Wars era.

“I know that Ewan McGregor would love to do more with it,” Christensen said. “I’ve heard Natalie [Portman] would love to come back. Sam Jackson. So you could get the band back together. Please get the band back together. That would be good fun.”

That pitch isn’t coming out of nowhere. McGregor has been publicly campaigning for another chapter of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s story for months, repeatedly telling outlets he’s ready to reprise the role whenever Lucasfilm gives the green light, and has specifically pointed to the gap between the Disney+ series and the original trilogy as fertile ground for new storytelling.

Samuel L. Jackson has also kept the door open for Mace Windu’s return, having long maintained that the character could plausibly have survived his fall from Palpatine’s office during ‘Revenge of the Sith.’ Natalie Portman, meanwhile, has been comparatively more reserved on the subject in past interviews, expressing openness to a Star Wars return without actively pushing for one the way McGregor and Jackson have.

Christensen’s comments suggest he sees an opportunity in that shared enthusiasm, framing a live-action Clone Wars project as a natural way to bring those threads together rather than isolating his own character in a solo spinoff.

The timing of Christensen’s remarks lines up with a broader pattern of Lucasfilm mining the prequel era for fresh content well over two decades after ‘Attack of the Clones’ and ‘Revenge of the Sith’ first hit theaters. That era, which starred McGregor, Portman, Christensen, Jackson, Ian McDiarmid, and Christopher Lee, has continued generating renewed interest through Disney+ series that revisit its characters from new angles.

With ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 confirmed to further explore the Clone Wars period through Christensen’s Force-spirit appearances, Lucasfilm has already signaled it isn’t finished mining that timeframe for new stories. Whether that translates into the kind of full ensemble reunion Christensen is pitching remains entirely up to the studio, but his comments add fresh momentum to a growing chorus of prequel-era actors expressing interest in returning.

Given how many of the original stars appear genuinely eager to revisit this period, Lucasfilm may find itself with more incentive than ever to seriously consider a full-scale Clone Wars live-action project.
