HBO and DC Developing Live-Action ‘V for Vendetta’ TV Series
A new live-action version of “V for Vendetta” is being developed as a TV series for HBO, according to Variety.
The project is said to be in early development, with Pete Jackson attached to write the show. James Gunn and Peter Safran from DC Studios are set to executive produce along with Ben Stephenson from Poison Pen and Leanne Klein from Wall to Wall Media, a part of Warner Bros. Television Studios UK. The series will be produced by Warner Bros. Television.
HBO and DC Studios have not made any official statements about the project yet, and Jackson’s representatives have not responded to Variety’s request for comment.
“V for Vendetta” originally started as a comic by writer Alan Moore and artist David Lloyd. It first appeared in 1982 in the British magazine “Warrior,” and later DC Comics took over publishing it in 1988. The story takes place in a dark and oppressive future Britain ruled by a fascist government called the Norsefire party.
A masked vigilante known as V fights back against the system with help from a young woman named Evey Hammond, whom he rescues from the secret police.
If HBO moves ahead with the project, this would be another DC Studios live-action show joining the network’s lineup, according to Variety.
The story of “V for Vendetta” was previously adapted into a 2005 film directed by James McTeigue and written by the Wachowskis. It starred Hugo Weaving as V and Natalie Portman as Evey. The movie was a hit with both audiences and critics, earning over $130 million worldwide. Warner Bros. now plans to re-release the film in theaters in November 2026 to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
