HBO Confirms Second Season for ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’
HBO has already renewed A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms for a second season, which is set to air in 2027.
The announcement came from Casey Bloys, CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content, during a press presentation in New York on Thursday. This news comes ahead of the series’ first season, which will now debut on January 18, 2026.
The show is a prequel to Game of Thrones and adapts George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas.
It was initially planned to premiere later this year, but was delayed to January 2026. The change in schedule ensures the series will not be affected by the ending of the HBO-Sky deal and will be available for HBO Max in the UK and Ireland.
Created by Ira Parker and George R.R. Martin, the series follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, known as Dunk, and his squire Aegon Targaryen, nicknamed Egg. Peter Claffey stars as Dunk, and Dexter Sol Ansell plays Egg.
Other cast members include Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen.
The story explores Westeros generations before the events of Game of Thrones, focusing on Dunk, a hedge knight of lowborn background, and Egg, a young prince of the Targaryen dynasty. Their adventures promise to expand the world of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire universe with new characters and political intrigue.
