HBO Renews Its Biggest Recent Hit for Season 3 Before Season 2 Even Airs
HBO Max has already decided the future of its hit medical drama The Pitt. The streamer has renewed the show for a third season even before season two makes its debut.
The news was shared by HBO and HBO Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys. He revealed the early renewal during a season two premiere event held in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.
The announcement comes just one day before the new season begins streaming on Thursday. The information comes directly from HBO.
Season two of The Pitt moves the story forward by 10 months. The new episodes take place over the July 4 holiday weekend. This time jump allows the characters to face the emotional fallout from the violent events and major moments that closed out season one, including a mass shooting inside the hospital.

Noah Wyle returns as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, who remains at the center of the story. The show was created by R. Scott Gemmill, who previously worked with Wyle on ER. Several familiar faces are also back, including Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, and Sepideh Moafi.
Some characters who went through intense storylines last season are still part of the show. Katherine LaNasa’s charge nurse Dana Evans and Patrick Ball’s Dr. Langdon both return, even after their characters faced major challenges and possible exits from the emergency department in season one.
The Pitt had a strong first season and quickly became one of HBO’s biggest shows in recent years. It won five Emmy Awards, including best drama series. Noah Wyle won for best actor, and Katherine LaNasa took home the award for supporting actress.
The series is produced by John Wells Productions in partnership with Warner Bros. Television. Executive producers include R. Scott Gemmill, John Wells, Noah Wyle, Erin Jontow, Joe Sachs, Simran Baidwan, and Michael Hissrich.
