HBO has officially dropped the first teaser for its new Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The upcoming fantasy drama will bring fans back to Westeros, this time with a smaller and more personal story centered on two unlikely heroes.

The series was created by Ira Parker and George R. R. Martin and is based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas.

Set long before the events of Game of Thrones, the story follows Ser Duncan the Tall, known as Dunk, and his young squire, Aegon Targaryen, nicknamed Egg. Their adventures take place roughly a century before the original series, during a time when the Targaryens still ruled the Seven Kingdoms.

Peter Claffey stars as Dunk, a humble hedge knight who dreams of honor and glory, while Dexter Sol Ansell plays Egg, the curious young prince who hides his royal identity. The cast also includes Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen.

Filming took place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, starting in June 2024 and wrapping up in September. The first season will feature six episodes and is expected to premiere on HBO and Max in January 2026. The show was originally planned for release in late 2025, but its launch was slightly delayed.

According to HBO, the new series will dive into the friendship between Dunk and Egg as they travel across Westeros, meeting knights, nobles, and dangerous rivals. The tone is said to be more grounded compared to other Game of Thrones stories, focusing on loyalty, honor, and the early days of the Targaryen dynasty.

George R. R. Martin has expressed excitement for the project, saying that “Dunk and Egg are two of my favorite characters, and I’m thrilled to see them come to life on screen.”

With the teaser now out, fans have gotten their first glimpse of what’s to come — a return to the world of dragons, politics, and power, but told through the eyes of a knight and his young squire.
