‘High School Musical 3’ Star Arrested for Child Pornography and Resisting Arrest
Former child star Matt Prokop has been arrested in Texas on serious charges, including possession of child p*******. The 35-year-old actor, best known for his role in High School Musical 3, was taken into custody on December 24 in Victoria County, according to an employee at the Victoria County Jail, as reported by PEOPLE. TMZ first broke the news.
Prokop is facing multiple charges. These include a violation of a protective order, evading arrest, and resisting arrest, search, or transportation. In addition, he is charged with a second-degree felony for allegedly possessing child p******. He remains in custody at the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office Jail. It has not been announced when he will appear in court.
The arrest comes years after allegations of abuse from his ex-girlfriend, Modern Family actress Sarah Hyland. Hyland previously accused Prokop of verbal and physical abuse during their five-year relationship. Court filings obtained by PEOPLE detail an incident in May 2014, in which she said Prokop allegedly slammed her into a car and choked her during an argument.
In August 2014, her co-star Julie Bowen reportedly helped Hyland end the relationship. Hyland also claimed that Prokop threatened to harm her dog and her home, which led her to secure a restraining order in September 2014.
Reflecting on the experience in 2024, Hyland told Variety, “I don’t know if that part [of] any woman will ever be fully healed from that. It’s something that kind of scars her soul a little bit. It’s more so putting love towards that scar instead of hating it and ignoring it.”
The allegations against Prokop and his recent arrest highlight a troubling pattern of behavior spanning many years. While authorities have confirmed the charges, court proceedings are ongoing, and Prokop’s legal team has not issued a statement.
This case raises questions about accountability for actors and former child stars once they leave the spotlight. It also brings attention to the systems in place for handling abuse allegations and ensuring the safety of those involved.
