Hilaria Baldwin Claps Back After Backlash Over Daughter Carmen’s “Inappropriate” Outfit
Hilaria Baldwin is standing up for her daughter after critics slammed her 12-year-old Carmen’s outfit online. On Monday, January 19, Hilaria took to Instagram to respond to negative comments about a video she posted of Carmen doing a voiceover with her younger sisters. In the clip, Carmen wore a white tank top, a beige skirt, and black tights—an outfit some viewers called inappropriate for her age.
One commenter wrote, “How on earth do you let a 12 y/o dress like this … EVERYTHING!” Hilaria responded with a nearly five-minute video, using the criticism as a chance to talk about societal pressures and female behavior.

She began her explanation with a playful but pointed statement: “Hi I’m Hilaria Baldwin, and I want to talk about how this comment relates to Pi, the patriarchy, and keeping us all very sad.”
Hilaria shared that she learned from scientists and feminists that women are often conditioned to see each other as competition. She used a pie analogy to describe it, saying people feel they “Gotta knock them out of the way” to get their share. She added firmly, “This is not true,” before outlining what she calls the “life cycles of being female.”
She explained that women go through three stages: childhood, adulthood, and old age. Babies and little girls, as well as the elderly, are in what she calls the “safe zone” because society does not view them as threats.
“When we’re babies and little girls, it’s a safe zone, right? They don’t intimidate, they don’t want pie,” she said. Women in their prime, however, enter the “not safe zone,” where jealousy and intimidation can arise. She explained that society assumes older women are no longer competing for “pie,” making them safe again.
Hilaria said shaming children online is not the right way to protect them. She educates her own children privately about safety instead of performing for the internet. “The way to take care of them is not through Instagram comments or shaming,” she said.
She also defended Carmen’s outfit, noting that her daughter has dressed like this her whole life. “So why is it making you uncomfortable?” Hilaria asked her critics. She emphasized that negative comments from other women often do more harm than good.
The mother of seven urged women to stop tearing each other down. She concluded her video with a call for inclusivity: women should be “on the same team” and willing to share their “recipe” for success, rather than judge one another.
The Baldwin family often shares glimpses of their busy life with seven children: Carmen, Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo, Maria Lucia, and Ilaria. Hilaria and her husband, actor Alec Baldwin, have been married since 2012.
Alec Baldwin is best known for his Emmy-winning role as Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock and has starred in films like Beetlejuice and The Hunt for Red October. He also continues to navigate the aftermath of the Rust shooting incident, but saw the involuntary manslaughter case against him dismissed in July 2024.
This information comes from Hilaria Baldwin’s Instagram post and video addressing the online criticism, as well as publicly available details about the Baldwin family.
