‘House of the Dragon’ Cast Reacts to Fan Theories — Rhaenyra and Alicent Romance,Laenor Return, and Surprising Connections Between Characters

Some House of the Dragon fans have been hoping for a romantic twist between Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. Since the show started, people online have shared theories and pointed out scenes they think hint at something more than friendship.
One of the biggest moments that sparked these ideas came in Season 2, when Alicent asked Rhaenyra to run away with her.
But it looks like the actors playing them don’t see it that way.
Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, who play Rhaenyra and Alicent, were recently part of a video on Entertainment Weekly’s YouTube channel where they responded to fan theories. When Cooke read out the idea about Alicent and Rhaenyra possibly having romantic feelings for each other, both actors couldn’t help but laugh. The theory clearly caught them off guard.
“I don’t know If I’m smart enough for this. ” D’Arcy stated, and the rest of the cast just smiled awkwardly.
At the end of the discussion, Cooke simply said, “It’s a weird question.” That pretty much summed up their reaction to the idea of a romance between their characters.
Even though fans have been reading between the lines, it seems the actors don’t believe there’s anything romantic going on. The show has definitely shown that the two women have a complicated and emotional connection, but love doesn’t seem to be part of it, at least not in the way some viewers are hoping for.
The next theory that had the cast laughing was about the Targaryens and their stillborn children. Some fans believe that the more inbred the Targaryens are, the fewer stillborns they have. The idea is that their dragon magic somehow “gene-splices” them, so too much human DNA actually causes problems.
Olivia Cooke quickly shut that one down, saying, “It’s not real.”
Another popular theory is that Laenor Velaryon might return to the show. Since we never actually saw him die on-screen, some think he escaped with his lover. While the cast agreed that Laenor was a great character, Steve Toussaint, who plays Laenor’s father, put this theory to rest: “He’s not coming back, he’s better off out of this toxic mess.”
Finally, there’s an interesting theory that Alys Rivers from House of the Dragon and Melisandre from Game of Thrones are actually the same person.
The cast found this idea intriguing, noting that the two characters do share some similarities. Olivia Cooke even said she didn’t want to debunk it, but overall, the cast didn’t have any strong arguments for or against the theory.
